Kevin & Jen's Hidden Valley Wedding Photos

Welcome to the first wedding blog of 2015! I’m excited about all the things I have planned for the business and all the weddings I’ll be shooting this year. Eventually, we’ll get to the warmer part of the season, but for this wedding, we couldn’t be farther. I think the high for Kevin and Jen’s day was 3°–AND it was windy! This couple (and the wedding party) didn’t complain once! I couldn’t have asked for a better group!

We started out with Jen at a hotel in East Aurora. After getting a few shots of her and her friends and family getting ready, it was time to head to the ceremony and reception venue. Thankfully, the roads were clear enough that getting to Hidden Valley wasn’t a problem. After a short ceremony, we headed out into the cold. Aside from the snowmobilers occasionally driving through our shoot, everything went really well. Once I got all the shots I needed, we got back inside and got ourselves warmed up. After introductions, the cake cutting, and an awesome meal by Hidden Valley, we got into the dancing portion of the evening. This was a great group to see on the dance floor and I was able to get some great shots because of it!

A little bit about this lead photo (above) — in talking with the couple leading up to the wedding, we both wanted a great shot outside, at night, with the snow falling. All day long it snowed. But when it got dark enough for the shot, the snow had stopped. I noticed it was windy and sometimes the wind would kick up just right and bring the snow with it. I knew this was the only way to get the shot we wanted. I presented it to Kevin and Jen and they were all in! I had everything set up so that, thankfully, they only had to wait 1-2 minutes before the wind came. It was freezing, but we got the shot and it is incredible!
